You have browsed all the given resources on Google. You have done your best! But there are some suggested Dos and Don’ts for the grand day when you have your actual IELTS test, let’s check out Advice for IELTS Exam.

Do’s and Don’ts on IELTS Test Day

Finally, the day has come to show your expertise in the English language. You have done your preparation well and it is the test day. There are several things you should keep in mind as you go for the test. Let’s break them down into the following parts:

Before the Test

  • Take a note of the test location given to you, as it may differ from the test centre you booked your test at. It is recommended to do this well in advance to your exam as it helps you to be fully prepared.
  • Similarly, make a note of the date and time as well.
  •  If possible, calculate the time it would take you to reach the venue. This helps to prevent you from running late as you may not be allowed to sit for the exam if you are late.

During the Test

  • No mobile phones are allowed inside the test room. They can be kept outside along with other personal belongings.
  • The test will be of 2 hours 40 minutes and no breaks will be provided during the test. So, it is advised that you use the bathroom before you enter the test room even if you think you don’t need to.
  •  Remember to stay hydrated. You are allowed to bring water only in a transparent bottle and no other food or drinks are allowed.
  • Further, you are only allowed to bring a pencil, pen, your ID and eraser inside the test room.
  •  During your listening test, make sure that you can hear the recording properly lest seek advice.
  • After you finish the listening section you have 10 minutes to transfer your answers on the answer sheet.
  • During reading module, ensure you answer all questions directly in the answer sheet. Any answer written in the question paper will not be assessed.
  • Remember, there is no extra time to transfer your answers onto the answer sheet in the reading section. So, make sure you do this within the given time frame.
  • In your writing module, you are allowed to make notes on the question paper but this is not assessable.
  • Adhere to the word limits given for each writing task.
  • The Speaking test will be a face-to-face conversation with the examiner. Make sure to speak in a comfortable and relaxed manner.
  • There are three parts to this section. Part 1 of the speaking section will include topics that are familiar to you. For example, your life, work, studies, etc.

If you have familiarized yourself with the IELTS test pattern and practiced well enough, then you can absolutely achieve your desired score. Since the IELTS test is different from a normal English test, you may also seek professional guidance by enrolling in IELTS coaching or IELTS online classes as this may enable you to get your desired test score in your first attempt. Good Luck with your IELTS test!
