NAATI-CCL Test Format

The process of attaining permanent residency in Australia has gone under transformation, for which an applicant needs to fulfill the requirement of points. This procedure has various options to gather points where 65 is a standard requirement. PTE, IELTS, Partner points, age, state nomination, education and experience were some of them. However, the Standard NAATI-CCL test format is a newly introduced language testing system which can give additional 5 points to add strength to your application.

NAATI-CCL is 90 marks test out of which a student needs to gain at least 63 points to clear the test.

Dialogue: This test has two parts termed as ‘Dialogues’. These dialogues are marked out of 90, and a student has to clear these dialogues individually by scoring at least 29. Therefore, it is deemed important to know that even passing the dialogues individually won’t help you to pass the test overall. An aspirant need to target at least 32 in each of it.

Segment: a segment is a part of dialogue which is a section spoken by one of the speakers. There will be twelve segments in total, 6 of each LOTE and English. Each segment is framed in a way that its length varies according to the context but remains below 35 words mostly. The dialogue has combination of segments in a way that English segment is accompanied by LOTE.

Test begins by Dialogue with having a briefing about the scenario. Every segment is followed by a beep tone which is a sign for the student to speak his response to that. A response has to be given in the opposite language which means if a segment played is in LOTE then answer must be in English and vice versa.

There are two separate tools provided for easing the test. They are “sorry correction” and “repeat please”. Sorry correction is assisting students to rephrase their answer or correct their response if their subject verb agreement goes wrong or their translation had something missing. “Repeat Please” is provided single in each dialogue individually which means a student can ask the invigilator to replay one of the segments that might have been missed by student. However, a second repeat will be penalized, and negative score will be given.

Also, after every segment, you are expected to sign your completion to examiner by a thumbs up which works for invigilator as a sign to play next segment.
You will be giving test on Microsoft teams for which a student should practice his/ her mock tests on the same software to be able to cope up technically with the test. Sometimes, technical issues can turn you nervous and may harm your overall performance in the test.
Results of the test are expected to be out in one to five weeks of time.
