New Years Resolution For PTE, IELTS and NAATI Students

New Years Resolution For PTE, IELTS, and NAATI Students

The New Year is almost upon us and what an unprecedented year 2020 has been. For many, this year has brought much change and reflection as we have adapted to new working and studying conditions, as well as family separation and isolation due to restrictions on social gatherings, travel and for some even the ability to leave their home with New Years Resolution.

Regardless of all that is happening we need to remember that we are a resilient people. Success, happiness and even fulfillment in life is not so much about what happens to us, but more importantly about how we respond to what happens to us. We always have a choice to see the good or the bad. Really, it ultimately comes down to what we choose to focus on.
How will you make 2021 your best year yet as a student? The key is knowing why you are studying. For some it may be to get a better job, applying for permanent residency or to further your university studies. What ever the reason, you must have a very clear vision of how your life will improve as a result of achieving your desired goal.

Imagine that it is the end of 2021 and you are looking back on your year and all that you have accomplished because you achieved your desired score for PTE, IELTS or NATTI. Who are you with? Where are you living? What work are you doing? Most importantly you need to experience what this will feel like when it comes true. Feelings are the key to our success.

You may know the saying “fake it till you make it!” Well a lot of us think it is all about the doing or actions that one takes. However, faking it is more about experiencing winning or achieving our goal in our mind before it ever becomes a reality. Michael Jordan the greatest basketball player of all time practiced the mindset of visualisation. He would imagine himself making the game winning shot well before he stepped on the basketball court. Along with this practice he focused on the fundamentals, declaring “Everything I did, everything I achieved, can be traced back to the way I approached the fundamentals”.
Commit to a daily practice in the 4 fundamental areas of your studies. Remember you improve your self through challenge. Step out of your comfort zone into the learning zone as this is where the magic happens.

READING – Develop the habit of reading English every day. Challenge yourself, read a novel or find articles on news websites such as BBC News, on education, health, science or technology. Set a daily goal, read 10 pages or for 10-15 minutes. If you do this all areas of your English will improve such as fluency, comprehension, grammar and spelling.

LISTENING – Get into the habit of listening to English every day, whether that is a podcast, Ted talk or audible. Your vocabulary and new knowledge will give you ideas for your writing essays as well as IELTS speaking.

WRITING – The best way to practice this is by starting a journal. Set aside 5-10 minutes each night to write about anything, your day, your worries, your dreams and goals. This will help you to become a more fluent writer, enabling you to express your ideas on paper more easily and instil greater confidence.

SPEAKING – The most important thing you can do is to practice. Speak English every day to everyone you meet. If you don’t have anyone to talk to you can read along with subtitles or even imitate what you hear on TV. Schedule a regular time with someone to converse with.

DREAM BIG, go after your goals and may 2021 be your best year ever! See more blog.
