There are different levels of language skill scores required for the different types of Visa, most of the skilled visas will need the competent score, which is IELTS 6 overall, and in all component. The skilled migration Visaβs such as 189, 190, 491, and 494, will expect minimum of ILETS 6 or equivalent language scores such as PTE. As discussed in the early blogs, 6 is only the minimum requirement, however, the visa will be issued based on the point systems. To increase your points, the competent, is not enough as it is only the basic requirement, but one should score at least proficient to gain 10 points, which is 7 in IETS overall, and in all components. For the score of 20, the applicants must score 20, which is IELTS 8 overall and in all components. Apart from this, there are plenty of training visa suitable for specific needs. Normally, the training visas would require you score average 4.5 in IELTS or equivalent.

The IELTS band score ranges from limited level to expert level. The limited level scoring is the achieving the band of 4.5, modest 5.5, competent 6, proficient 7, superior, 8, and expert level is 9 band.Β For most of the skilled visaβs, the basic requirement is competent level, which is equivalent to 6. In IELTS, the band scores depend on the scoring range in listening and reading, however, the other sections is highly subjective as it is scored manually. However, the IELTS examiners are highly trained professional to ensure the consistency level in speaking and writing. In the listening and reading part, your band score depends on the number of correct answers and differs from academic and general. For instance, to get the band score of 7 in reading, one needs to get 30-32 in Academic, whereas in general it is 34-35. For the work-related visa, applicants will generally go for the general IELTS than academic as the general one is quite easy in comparison to the academics.
The functional and vocational are considerably basic proficiency normally expected by DHA for few Visa categories, however, the most common expected scores are competent to proficient and applicable for university admissions, graduate visas, and skilled migrations in certain categories. In general, Skilled migration category, the higher the point the better chance for the applicant to be invited by DHA. Hence, PTE is one of the possible and efficient way to increase your points to skilled migration. The minimum score for most of the skilled visa would expect applicant to have a minimum point of 7 in IELTS, hence, achieving a proficient level is mandatory. However, considering the current scenario in immigration including highly competitive environment and increase in basic points, the applicants must aim to achieve the superior level of English. Further, for the points, achieving proficient level will give 10 points, and superior level will give 20 points, which is equivalent to band score of 8 in IELTS.
